When you support the KU Biodiversity Institute & Natural History Museum, you provide world-class training for the next generation of scientists, advance discoveries informing solutions to modern challenges and foster science understanding for all ages.
The Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum, one of 11 KU designated research centers, is at the forefront of biological diversity research, training, data management and public science education. The institute is a global resource for physical and digital specimen data vital to solving some of today’s most pressing challenges. Faculty and staff in 16 different research divisions, from archaeology to vertebrate paleontology, mentor students and steward, curate and share KU’s vast collections of more than 10 million plant, animal and fossil specimens and 2 million cultural artifacts. It is a destination learning center for K-12 youth, college students, the community and visiting scholars.
We are providing the highest standard of training for the next generation of biodiversity science leaders, shaping global research technology, harnessing essential data for global interdisciplinary use and providing excellent public science education through the museum’s engaging exhibits and programming. Your generosity can fuel student opportunities for domestic and international research and training, and expand specimen digitization and data technologies. A gift to support the Biodiversity Institute and Natural History Museum is a gift of knowledge, solutions and inspiration for all ages.
Now is the time to make a transformative gift to the Biodiversity Institute & Natural History Museum to address the following priorities:
Your contributions help us train and mentor the next generation of biodiversity specialists, including providing essential and ethical fieldwork experiences in Kansas and around the globe. These opportunities provide students with unique learning experiences that prepare them for the next steps in their careers and increase their understanding of global issues. Support also helps fuel KU research discoveries and increase specimen data.
The institute has a long history of offering empowering fieldwork experiences for student researchers, including those underrepresented in the sciences. Fieldwork may include evaluating habitats, monitoring species population growth and decline, researching insects and mammals that transmit diseases to humans and gathering vital information that informs researchers, conservationists and others.
Your support will enable more student scientists to acquire fieldwork experience and mentoring, provide needed supplies for this specialized work in the U.S. and abroad, and lay the foundation for more groundbreaking discoveries.
