Faculty and students from every University of Kansas school and department come together in this nationally renowned program to collaborate, experiment and address the societal needs that mean the most to them.
The University Honors Program is personalized, innovative education exemplified. A team of mentors, including faculty fellows, alumni and staff, gets to know students holistically, then helps them define and realize the change they want to make in the world.
We hear every week from students who were admitted to the nation’s top universities who choose to attend KU, drawn in part to the program’s unique, interdisciplinary opportunities.
Take Common Cause. This semester-long KU Honors opportunity is shaped by a team of students who select the annual topic, identify community partners and organize volunteer opportunities with community non-profits. They gain leadership and professional development skills while collaborating with peers, faculty, alumni, staff and community partners. Inspired by their experience with Common Cause, students have obtained UN Millennium Fellowships, launched new internships with local riverkeepers, and coordinated the construction of homes for children who age out of foster care.
The innovative support for a student’s individual ambitions, always intrinsic to the KU Honors program, is now infused into the university at large. First-year seminars and individualized advising, which both found their start in KU Honors, are today accessible to all KU undergraduates, who benefit from the authentic connections and close-knit community they create.
Your investment in the University Honors Program will support the application of interdisciplinary learning that addresses urgent needs, gives our top faculty the inspiration and connections that keep them engaged, and nurtures new approaches to student success on campus.
Join us in launching leaders who enrich our campus community and go on to catalyze meaningful change in Kansas and around the world.
Unlike an honors college with permanent faculty, KU Honors regularly sources inspiring professors from across disciplines — a powerful corps of Honors Faculty Fellows dedicated to mentoring students. Endowing these fellowships allows us to host the very best of KU’s teachers, researchers, practitioners and scholars who mentor our promising students.
Students and alumni alike tell us that study abroad is as transformative as any experience they have on campus. But due to multiple majors and demanding curricula, as well as limited budgets, many honors students cannot accommodate a semester away. Your investment will help us to develop focused, faculty-led experiences abroad that take place over academic breaks — more practical for many, but equally life-changing.
Your investment in our University Honors Program Emergency Aid Fund will answer student needs when hardship hits, enabling more students to stay in school, earn their degrees and go on to make our university and world better. Too often, seemingly small financial emergencies may derail a student’s KU experience. A minor car repair that prevents attendance or a month’s rent missed because of absence from part-time work can end a college path for some. Help us provide this safety net.
