The KU School of Engineering is a bridge to the future. Engineers work to improve the lives of everyone. From large-scale infrastructure projects like our highway system, clean energy solutions to power our cities and aircraft designs to explore our planet’s outer reaches to laser-focus concentration on the tiniest aspects of our environment such as removing microplastics from wastewater, the work of engineers is directly linked to our quality of life.
KU Engineering is a collaborative hub of innovation. We are focused on building an ecosystem that supports each Jayhawk — from undergraduate students to graduate students and faculty researchers — as they learn, teach and conduct research. It’s a virtuous cycle in which each individual actively participates in their own development and contributes to each other’s goals.
By supporting our desire to offer more student scholarships, more graduate fellowships and more resources to support faculty and their research productivity, you will make it possible for us to continue to educate future engineering leaders, pioneer new technologies and develop solutions to the world’s problems. More than that, you will help us meet today’s needs while we ensure engineers are prepared for tomorrow’s challenges.
The School of Engineering has ambitious goals to grow enrollment and graduate more engineers. Making a transformative gift would advance those goals by addressing these priorities:
Engineering faculty members are leaders in their fields and raise the stature of our school and university. They are nationally known researchers with federal funding, authors of the standard textbook for their subject, creative inventors who are solving today’s most complex challenges and teachers who inspire the next generation to imagine future innovations that aren’t even the fuzzy construct of dreams today. Keeping these luminary faculty at KU and in higher education is vitally important for the school. We strive to provide the financial and staffing support they need to effectively instruct students, further their research and advance the profession.
Graduate students provide invaluable teaching and research support for all engineering disciplines, mentor undergraduates and inspire professors and peers alike with fresh problem-solving approaches. Fellowships and research opportunities for graduate students are vital to attract these engineering rising stars to KU and give them the support needed to become research-driven faculty members or industry leaders.
Undergraduate students are the engineers of the future. Additional scholarship support will help the School of Engineering recruit more students, involve them in research and help them excel throughout the rigorous programs with reduced need for earning a paycheck while in school. Support also broadens students’ point of view by enabling them to participate in extramural activities and fully engage in the campus community.
