Politics. Service. Civics. The Dole Institute is dedicated to developing a new era of leadership that uses politics to bring people together, through opportunities that emphasize bipartisan cooperation, public service and civic education and engagement.
The Dole Institute of Politics promotes political and civic participation, civil discourse and idea exchange in a bipartisan, balanced manner. We provide leadership opportunities for KU students and invigorating public programs with national and world leaders. The Institute houses the Robert and Elizabeth Dole Archives and Special Collections, one of the largest congressional archives in the nation, and features public exhibits that tell the compelling story of Senator Bob Dole’s life and a variety of timely political topics.
As the Dole Institute enters its third decade, inspired by the lives and careers of Senators Bob and Elizabeth Dole, our dedication to the ideal that politics is and should be a positive conduit for bringing people together to solve societal problems and move our country forward is more important than ever before.
The Dole Institute is a vibrant forum for civil discourse, civic engagement and exchanging ideas across the political spectrum. In addition to public exhibits and programming, we are a vital resource for KU students who participate in experiential learning, mentoring and leadership opportunities, all of which are led by nationally recognized political leaders and practitioners. We also provide Kansas youth and educators leadership resources and programs. The Institute is open to the public to explore exhibits on Bob and Elizabeth Dole’s legacy and engaging special exhibits that bring politics and history into focus for all ages.
Now is the time to make a transformative gift to the Dole Institute to address the following priorities:
With your support, the Dole Institute will continue to provide unique experiential learning opportunities for new generations at KU, across Kansas and beyond. Help us prepare more students for constructive, active engagement in their communities, and as global citizens and leaders through our programs, such as our interdisciplinary volunteer Student Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB convenes student forums on a variety of issues, engages in service and volunteer opportunities, and provides mentorship and other professional opportunities with Dole Fellows and other leaders. Civic Engagement and Leadership initiatives promote voter registration each fall.
Your support expands collaborative opportunities for students across KU academic programs, enhancing partnerships with programs such as the University Honors Program, Center for Service Learning and more.
Your investment in new generations grows outreach to K-12 youth at the Institute and across Kansas schools — building on our signature annual Youth Civic Leadership Institute, which brings Kansas high school students across the state together to learn about bipartisan civic engagement and leadership. Your contribution can help ensure these impactful programs remain free and can expand.
Your investment in the Dole Institute’s archival collections opens the doors to a critical historical resource for the Dole legacies, the nature of leadership and the democratic and political processes that underpin our nation’s governance and civic vitality.
Help us connect students and scholars across ideas, perspectives and generations through state-of-the-art enhancements to digital infrastructure, galleries and collections stewardship, as well as programming inspired by historical legacy, including the Dole Lecture and the Dole Leadership Prize.
The Dole Institute’s legacy of leadership is significant in Kansas, Washington, D.C., and across the world. We engage key partners nationally and internationally to grow a civil political culture and maintain our leading reputation as a forum for bipartisan discourse and critical resource for students of all ages.
With your support, we will continue growing our world-class Dole Fellows program through organizational partnerships and individual experts who demonstrate leadership and practical expertise for KU students. We will strengthen our community through increased engagement with key groups such as our faculty and staff ambassadors, our Student Advisory Board Alumni, and corporate and community partners, who all help further advance the Dole Institute’s mission and reach.
