With your help, the KU Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and partners at The University of Kansas Health System steadily move toward eliminating Alzheimer’s disease and other complex brain conditions like stroke and Parkinson’s through treatment and prevention.
The Brain Health Initiative is a groundbreaking collaboration featuring nationally renowned centers, clinics and programs at KU that aim to completely transform neurological care and research across the globe — a paradigm shift from a focus on brain disease to one on brain health.
At the University of Kansas Medical Center and The University of Kansas Health System, we are international leaders of a transformative movement in brain health. Our vision extends beyond treating brain diseases like Alzheimer’s, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and neuromuscular disorders — we’re focused on preventing these devastating conditions before they begin.
We are at the forefront of a global brain health movement, but the race is on. Our initiative will come together in a new state-of-the-art building designed to nurture collaboration between researchers and specialists in neurology, neurosurgery, and rehabilitation medicine who are unraveling the latest threats to brain function and creating innovative ways to treat neurological disease.
The KU Alzheimer’s Disease and Research Center (ARDC) is the foundation for our work on brain health. The Center continues to receive international recognition for its research on metabolism both as a mediator for dementia at the cellular level and at the population level using diet and exercise to maintain brain function.
Our focus on brain health extends to the millions of people of all ages affected by stroke, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, MS, neuromuscular disease and other brain disorders. The academic medical center is a leader in pursuing research and providing specialty care not available elsewhere; in the latest U.S. News and World Report national survey, KU ranked #25 for Neuroscience and has been in the top 50 programs for the last 12 consecutive years.
Despite our achievements, there’s more to be done. Patients face challenges due to limited space and scattered facilities. A new Brain Health facility will address these issues, reducing wait times for world-class care, providing essential support for caregivers and connecting large teams of researchers in one accessible location.
This transformation will extend beyond the walls of our new facility with innovative networks, new care models and educational outreach all aimed at creating healthier communities for our city, region and our world. Help us transform the future of brain health, for now and for good, by supporting the Brain Health Initiative.
We have the expertise, the innovation and the drive. Now, we need a facility that allows us to fully realize our potential as leaders in brain health.
We are home to nine nationally recognized Centers of Excellence in neurology, covering everything from epilepsy to Parkinson’s disease. The KU ADRC is internationally known for its groundbreaking research on the root causes of dementia and innovative approaches to early detection and prevention.
Our strength goes beyond our individual programs — it’s in our collaborative spirit, our commitment to unite experts across disciplines, and our ability to translate research into real-world solutions. By investing in our strengths, you’re not only supporting cutting-edge research and treatments, but also ensuring that we have the resources to expand our work and reach more families.
Your support is vital to the success of our Brain Health Initiative. We are embarking on a bold plan to create a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to brain health. This new building will bring together neuroscience researchers, specialists, and multidisciplinary teams all focused on brain health. It will allow us to expand our capacity to meet growing demand for care, offer the latest clinical trials, and pioneer new prevention and treatment strategies that address the unique needs of each patient along with support for caregivers.
By partnering with us, you help create a space where innovation thrives, where patients and families receive world-class care, and where our community comes together to learn, heal and hope. Join us in building a destination center for our community and beyond.
